Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday December 15, 2020 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Chairperson Todd Brandel, Commissioner Matt Beilke, Commissioner Kim Pearson and
Chief Tom Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Brandel called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the October agenda. Commissioner Beilke made a motion to
accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Pearson. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the November 2020 meeting. Commissioner
Beilke made a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Commissioner Pearson. The motion carried
unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Gifferson updated Commission on Police Officer Hiring Process. Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that
Niki Cappelen has begun field training and is progressing as expected.
Chief Gifferson briefed the Commission regarding officer on leave.
Chief Gifferson briefed the Commission on the staffing levels in the Communication Center. Communications is short
two full time employees and will not be seeking to fill the positions.
Policy Update:
Union Update:
Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that negotiations for sergeants are ongoing. No agreement reached as of
yet.
Items from the Floor:
Adjourn: Commissioner Pearson made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Beilke to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:15 pm.
Next meeting is Tuesday January 19, 2021 at 5:00 pm.
