05-19-2020 POLM Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday May 19, 2020 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Chairperson Todd Brandel, Commissioner Kim Pearson, Matt Beilke and Chief Tom
Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Brandel called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the May agenda. Commissioner Pearson made a motion to
accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Beilke. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the April 2020 meeting. Commissioner
Pearson made a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Commissioner Beilke. The motion carried
unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Gifferson updated the commission on the status of Officer Greg Nadeau.
Chief Gifferson updated the commission on the progress of the Communication Specialist hiring process.
Chief Gifferson briefed the Commission on the departments Covid-19 protocols.
Chief Gifferson asked the Commission to approve placing Deb Voss on the Communications eligibility roster. Motion
was made by Chairperson Brandel to approve placing Deb Voss on the eligibility roster, seconded by Commissioner
Kim Pearson. The motion carried unanimously.
Union Update:
Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that the City Council had approved the contract but the officers have yet to
vote on it.
Chief Gifferson informed the Commission that the sergeants had cast their ballots to decide on representation and
they had voted to unionize.

Adjourn: Commissioner Beilke made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Pearson to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:10pm.
