Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday June 18, 2019 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Commissioner Todd Brandel, Commissioner Steve Synstelien and Chief Tom Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Brandel called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the June agenda. Commissioner Synstelien made a motion
to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Chairperson Brandel. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the May 2109 meeting. Commissioner
Synstelien made a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Chairperson Brandel. The motion carried
unanimously.
Police Officer Hiring Process Update:
Chief Gifferson advised the Commission the Police Officer Hiring Process is progressing. Jose Villareal and Madisen
Douvier were offered conditional offers for hire.
Hospital Security Officer Hiring Process Update:
Chief Gifferson asked the commission to certify the eligibility roster for the Hospital Security position. Commissioner
Brandel made a motion to approve the eligibility roster, seconded by Commissioner Synstelien Motion was
approved unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Gifferson informed the commission that Officer Jesse Umphress had submitted his resignation.
Chief Gifferson requested authorization to begin the hiring process for Police Officer for 1 vacancy. Chairperson
Brandel made a motion authorizing the hiring process for Police Officer, seconded by Commissioner Synstelien. The
motion carried unanimously.
Union Update:
No update at this time.

Adjourn: Commissioner Synstelien made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Brandel to adjourn the meeting.
Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:12 pm.
