Gardens in Blomkest. The annual trip to the state fair will be this Thursday,
August 30th. The Center is offering a September 18th Mystery Tour. Julie will
take a group to see "Bee Hive" at the Old Log Theater on October 10th. The
November excursion will be to the Bell Museum in St. Paul with lunch at
Christo's on the 13th. The Chanhassen Dinner Theater is on tap for a December
5th matinee showing of"Holiday Inn". A possible upcoming trip will feature the
music of Rosemary Clooney. Julie is looking for ideas for weatherproof
possibilities for trips in January and February.
B. Update on Programs- September reported that the August movie "I Can Only
Imagine"was well received. The September movie will be "The Greatest
Showman" with "The Book Club" as the second feature. The August Fellowship
dinner will be held tomorrow night. Kayaking is going very well with new people
showing up on a regular basis. A September outing is being planned to Lake
Minnie-Belle. National Senior Citizen Day turned out to be kind of a dud. The
book clubs continue to be popular. The Senior Expo will be held on September
26h.
V. Business
A. Active Shooter Event- A training was held on July 25th at the Event Center on
what to do in case of a mass shooting. Board members reported that it was very
informative and they would like to bring the trainer back again in the near
future.
B. Neil Diamond Event- September investigated the cost of bringing a tribute to
Neil Diamond to Hutchinson after watching the fellow perform in St. Cloud.
The cost of$12-$15,000 was just a little too steep to attempt an event.
C. T-Shirt Idea- September reported that they are still working on a design for
the Senior Center t-shirts.
D. Concert- The concert tickets are on sale for the Saturday, September 15th
event. Over 100 tickets have already been sold. The board spent some time
determining who would be available to help with this event.
E. Other- The monthly drawing for Fellowship Dinner tickets went to Joan Ewald.
September brought up the idea of purchasing some pickleball equipment and
setting up a time to play at the Recreation Center. Since the fairgrounds
already has pickleball set up in their facility, the board threw out the idea of
running an activity there. An instructor would teach our participants how to
play the game of pickleball.
VI. Adjournment: Kay made a motion to adjourn at 10:52 am with a second from
Jeannette. The motion passed.
The Senior Advisory Board's next regularly scheduled business meeting will be held on
Monday, September 24th, at 10:OOam.
