05-15-2018 POLM Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday May 15, 2018 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Commissioner Todd Brandel, Commissioner Jo Piehl, Commissioner Curtis Hughes, In-coming Commissioner Steve Synstelien, In-coming Commissioner Kim Pearson, and Lieutenant Tom Gifferson. Call the Meeting to Order: Chairperson Brandel called the meeting to order by at 5:00 p.m. Approval of Agenda: Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the May agenda. Commissioner Hughes made a motion to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Piehl. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the April 2018 meeting. Commissioner Hughes made a motion to accept the minutes as written, seconded by Commissioner Piehl. The motion carried unanimously. Introduction of new Police Commissioner: Newly appointed Police Commissioner Steve Synstelien introduced himself to the group. Commissioner Synstelien will take over for Commissioner Curtis Hughes who has provided outstanding leadership during his two terms on the Commission. Newly appointed Police Commissioner Kim Pearson introduced herself to the group. Commissioner Pearson will take over for Commissioner Jo Piehl who has provided outstanding leadership during her two terms on the Commission. Staffing Issues: Lt. Gifferson informed the Commission that Full-time Officer Eric Peterson and Part-time Officer Candidates are currently in field training and progressing without issue at this time. Lt. Gifferson informed the Commission that Part-time Security Officers Jose Villarreal, James Marvin, Ben Hueber progressing without issue at this time. Lt. Gifferson informed the Commission that Part-time Communication Specialist Breanne Tasche has completed her field training and progressing without issue at this time. Union Update: No update at this time. Items from the Floor: Adjourn: Commissioner Hughes made a motion, seconded by Commissioner Piehl to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
