Hutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at the
Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Commissioner Todd Brandel,
Commissioner Curtis Hughes, Commissioner Steve Synstelien, and Chief Daniel Hatten.
Call the Meeting to Order:
Chairperson Brandel called the meeting to order by at 5:03 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Brandel asked if there were any changes to the April agenda. Commissioner
Hughes made a motion to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Chairperson Brandel.
The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Brandel asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the March 2018
meeting. Commissioner Hughes made a motion, seconded by Chairperson Brandel to approve
the meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Introduction of new Police Commissioner:
Newly appointed Police Commissioner Steve Synstelien introduced himself to the group.
Commissioner Synstelien will officially begin his duties at the May meeting. Commissioner
Synstelien will take over for Commissioner Curtis Hughes who has provided outstanding
leadership during his two terms on the Commission.
Staffing Issues:
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Full-time Officer Eric Peterson and Part-time Officer
Candidates are currently in field training and progressing without issue at this time.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Part-time Security Officers Jose Villarreal, James
Marvin, Ben Hueber progressing without issue at this time.
Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Part-time Communication Specialist Breanne
Tasche is currently in field training and progressing without issue at this time.
Union Update:
No update at this time.
Items from the Floor:
Chief Hatten invited the Police Commission to the Police Department’s swearing-in ceremony
on Wednesday April 18, 2018 at 4:30 pm at the Hutchinson Event Center.
Adjourn: Commissioner Hughes made a motion, seconded by Chairperson Brandel to adjourn
the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:18 pm.
Next meeting is Tuesday May 15, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
