Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
May 1, 2017
Members present were Don DeMeyer, Marsha Anderson, Craig Juhnke, Liz Marcus, Eric
Westlund, Chris Wilke, Tim Peterson, Marlys Hoeft and Chad Czmowski. Also present were
Dolf Moon, Mary Haugen, and Leslie Alberts.
Don DeMeyer called the meeting to order at 5:20 pm.
A motion was made by Don DeMeyer to approve minutes from March 6 meeting and was
seconded by Marsha Anderson. The board unanimously agreed.
OLD BUSINESS
Aquatics Center: Project Update: advised on layout and the incorporation of plantings,
cement poured for Lazy River. Reviewed timeline for completion of pool. Will be using
Facebook as a means to communicate with the community regarding updates, advertisement on
product and pool.
Ribbon Cutting: June 3 in the morning
NEW BUSINESS
1. United Way Funding Request
a. Did not meet the fundraising goal
2. Volunteer Projects
a. HHS & Charter schools cleaned South Park, 51' Ave bridge, Rain
garden at the Depot and re -mulch, Harrington/Merrill House: paver
walkway and replaced railing, Campground: painted building and
mulch.
b. Elks Park: concrete was poured — roughly $70,000 was fundraised.
c. Rotary Park: $70,000 in new playground equipment. Equipment was
installed in May.
d. VFW Installation: monetary bathroom match not able to be secured.
VFW left existing money with the City of Hutchinson and installed
playground.
3. Online Registration
a. 416 registrations the first day open
4. Parks Projects
a. 3 playground installations this summer
b. Riverside: John Olson fixed asphalt
c. Pressure washed shelter roofs
d. Linden Park: Aug - storm water planning
5. Moved meal program to Middle School
BOARD MEMBER ITEMS
• Mountain Bike Association: Ron Carter completed repairs at bike park.
