Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
June 7, 2016
Members present were John Rodeberg, Tim Peterson, Marsha Anderson, Marlys Hoeft, Don
DeMeyer, Jim Waldron, Chad Czmowski, and Elizabeth Hanninen-Scharn. Also present were
Dolf Moon, and Leslie Alberts.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm by John Rodeberg.
A motion was made by Chad Czmowski to approve minutes from the April 11th and May 2nd
meeting and was seconded by Don DeMeyer. The board unanimously agreed.
OLD BUSINESS
Aquatic Center: Demo has started. All original completion dates are still in effect even though
permitting process has taken extra time on the front end. The rebid resulted in a $4,000
reduction of the project cost.
NEW BUSINESS
Mass Registration:
Mass registration night brought in $20,000. Thank you to all the volunteers! PRCE finding that
adult sports are fading out. Athletic camps are up from last year. Swimming lessons are on par
with previous years.
Heart of Hutch:
Candace Hoversten will be presenting at the next school board meeting discussing various family
activities Heart of Hutch is bringing to the community.
2017 Budget:
For the month of June — approve CE budget. Also work on building Aquatic Center budget
based on numbers researched within PRCE. PRCE looking at an additional maintenance
employee to assist with Aquatic Center/Recreation Center.
School Project:
Met last week with landscape contractor to complete a walk-through of the school grounds. City
crews will complete removals to save money. The city will facilitate plantings and will utilize
the Energy Tree Program via Utilities with a grant from the DNR. Environmentalist, John
Paulson, will be involved in the rain gardens on site for storm water runoff
Summer Projects:
Baseball Tournaments: The scoreboard and bull -pens at Roberts Park have been re -done. The
field lights will be re-lamped.
Recreation Center: The landscaping and paver patio is complete. Roughly (10) mini -shelters
will receive new tin roofs.
Kimberly Park: will receive new play structure the 3rd week of June.
VFW Park: $15,000 that was set aside for restrooms may be re-allocated for a new play
structure. VFW looking to get approval.
