Arbor Day 2003
Notifications have been sent to the following schools, Immanual
Lutheran, St.A's, Park Elementary, Maplewood Academy, Word
of Life and Our Saviors Lutheran. As of this date only Our Saviors
Lutheran has indicated they are unable to attend.
Dates for the Pre -Arbor Day introduction are pending with each
school.
Date of the event, which will take place at Park Elementary, is set
for Friday, May 16th 2003.
Deanne Dietel stated that new certificates for the contest winners
should be updated.
Deanne Dietel will work on the plaque and the possible graving
with laser for the "Biggest Tree Contest" traveling plaque.
Energy Tree Proiect
Only 20 applications have been received thus far. The use of the
water utility billing system was not used this year and the board
thought that it should be reinstated as a way to get the word out.
Tree Plantinz Ordinance in New Subdivisions
The ordinance was passed by the City Council. It states that all
new subdivides will be responsible for escrowing dollars for two
B&B 2" dia trees per lot. Also the ordinance states that if soils are
not adequate for tree growth on the boulevard, soil amendments
must be administered. It also states that if the City of Hutchinson is
unable to financially maintain the trees in the future that the
subdivide will no longer be required to adhere to the ordinance.
The Tree Board did not agree with that part of the ordinance
stating they felt that, should the City of Hutchinson be unable to
budget for trees, the sub divider should continue to plant and also
replace in absence of city support.
Rollin,q Meadows Blvd Tree Request
The Rolling Meadows Housing Association submitted a letter
requesting the City of Hutchinson plant the boulevards in their
subdivision. [ this subdivision is was completed prior to the new
ordinance requiring the developer to fund the tree purchases ] .
The Tree Board stated they would not like to see trees planted in
the subdivision without first having the soils amended to allow
proper growth. They instructed Schnobrich to contact the
association and request the soil amendments on the lots to receive
trees.

Banquet at the University of Minnesota arboretum on the 16th of
