02-02-2015 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday February 2, 2015 at the Hutchinson Police Station. Present at the meeting were Commissioner Jo Piehl, Commissioner Todd Brandel, and Chief Daniel Hatten. Call the Meeting to Order: The meeting was called to order by Chief Hatten at 4:37 p.m. Swearing-in Ceremony for New Police Commissioners Jo Piehl and Todd Brandel. The oaths were administered to each Commissioner by City of Hutchinson Attorney Marc Sebora. Approval of Agenda: Chief Hatten asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Jo Piehl to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Todd Brandel. The motion carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Chief Hatten asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the December 2014 meeting. Motion was made by Commissioner Jo Piehl, seconded by Commissioner Todd Brandel to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried unanimously. 2015 Police Commission Officer Selection: Commissioner Todd Brandel was appointed Chairperson for 2015. The motion was made by Commissioner Piehl and seconded by Commissioner Brandel. Motion carried unanimously. Commissioner Jo Piehl was appointed Secretary for 2015. The motion was made by Commissioner Brandel and seconded by Commissioner Piehl. Motion carried unanimously. 2015 Police Commission Meeting Dates: It was determined the 2015 meeting dates would be the third Monday of the month at 5:15 pm. The location of the meetings will continue to be held at the Hutchinson Police Station. Staffing Issues: Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Communication Specialist Katelyn Westphal was disciplined following an internal investigation. Westphal accepted the discipline without question and declined to appeal the internal investigation finding or discipline. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Police Officer Tyler Schmeling has been released from field training and is now working in the Patrol Unit. Chief Hatten informed the Commission that Amanda Palubeskie will be offered the Part-time Hospital Security position. We are waiting on the Hospital to provide a specific start date. Candidate Jeremy Johnson was eliminated during the background investigation. Chief Hatten requested the Police Commission authorize him to begin the hiring process for Part-time Hospital Security Officer to fill the current opening. There are no other candidates on the current eligibility list. Motion was made by Commissioner Todd Brandel, seconded by Commissioner Jo Piehl to authorize the hiring process for Part- time Hospital Security Officer. Motion carried unanimously. Union Update: Chief Hatten informed the Commission the police officers contract has yet to be signed. Items from the Floor: Commissioners Piehl and Brandel reviewed and signed the City of Hutchinson Code of Conduct. Adjourn: Motion was made by Commissioner Jo Piehl, seconded by Commissioner Todd Brandel to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried unanimously. Time of adjournment 5:16 pm.
