I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00a.m. by Harriet Sturges, vice chairperson.
II. Secretary's Report: The October 27th minutes were examined. Curt made a
motion to approve the minutes and Judy seconded the motion. The motion was
approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: September reported that the giving program has now topped
$3800. Card sales for September and October totaled 502 which brought in $251 in
revenue. Button bouquet sales totaled $123, while shotgun shell wreaths/flags racked
up another $330. Dish cloths completed the month with $10 in sales. Some donated
quilted items rang up an additional $140 in sales. Judy made a motion to accept the
report with a second from Darlene. The motion passed.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie Jensen reported that a group toured the Westminster Presbyterian
and Plymouth Congregational churches while also checking out a candy store and
dining at Jax Cafe. On November 16th another group traveled to Montevideo for
lunch and then on to Dawson to hear a choral group. Coming up on December
11th will be a tour to the Old Log Theater which will be performing "Life Could
be a Dream". The new year begins with a January 7th trip to the Plymouth
Playhouse for "Branson on the Road". Following that we will travel to the
Chanhassen Dinner Theater on February 11th to see "Hello Dolly". On March
19th we will visit Orchestra Hall for Rogers and Hammerstein's "Carousel" that
includes a stop at Famous Dave's for lunch. The Minneapolis Institute of the Arts
is the April destination of choice as the group will view "Art in Bloom". On May
2nd we will travel to the Minnesota History Center for "The Songs of the
Hutchinson's", a tribute to the music of the Hutchinson brothers. Julie is looking
for a cruise to go on this next summer. Julie brought up the topic of a gratuity for
the bus driver on our tours. It is common practice to provide a tip if the service is
good. Julie felt that the current driver does an exceptional job and should be
recognized for it. On a motion made by Judy and seconded by Darlene, the board
decided to give the bus driver a $200 gratuity for this past year.
B. Update on Programs- The Girls Singers concert on December 5th has 60 tickets
sold so far. Christmas songs will be featured at this concert. The Fellowship
dinner is tomorrow night. The movie "Parkland" was well attended. The movie
for December is "Snowbound". The movie "Frozen" will be shown on
December 22nd and provides the chance for grandparents to bring their
grandchildren to the Center during Christmas break. The beginning knitting class
went over well. Table tennis is up and running on Tuesday evenings. It was
brought up that Pickleball is becoming popular with senior men in the area. There
are currently over 20 people playing at the fairgrounds on Monday and Thursday
mornings from 9am until noon. This program is listed in the newsletter.
V. Business
A. Girl Singer Hit Parade- September asked the board to help spread flyers for the
next concert on December 5th featuring the Girl Singer group. The concert will
feature Christmas music from the 50's.
B. Hutch Leader Information- The Senior Center will be providing monthly
updates to the Hutchinson Leader on attendance for various Center activities
along with recognition of accomplishments by those who attend the Center.
The hope in providing this information is that it will spread the word on senior
activities and encourage more participation.
C. Buck Uecker Card Game- A few of the seniors have requested that the Center
establish a time for them to play the card game Buck Uecker. As with any of
the other card groups, if enough interest can be uncovered, a set time and day
will be established.
D. Church of Cash- The next potential concert will feature music from Johnny
Cash by a group called "The Church of Cash". It came about from a
recommendation by the new mayor, Gary Forcier. September will pursue an
April 18th date with the promoters.
VI. Adjournment: Judy made a motion to adjourn at 11:27 am with a second from Warren.
The motion passed.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 26th at 10:00 a.m. A holiday
gathering will be held on December 15th at 4:30p.m.
John McRaith, Secretary
