December 16, 1963
The regular meeting of the Hutchinson planning Commission was
held on Monday, December 16, at 7:30 P.N, in the City Hall. Torgrim-
son and Gruett were absent.
Members of the parking committee of the Civic and Commerce were
present: Milt Lueneburg, chairman, El.oi Hamre, secretary of the C and
C, Morris Klitzke, Norman Tulman, and Arnold Heil.
Mr.. Lueneburg read a prepared statement comparing Hutchinson
as a trade center with other communities, and citing local parking
policies as one of the deterrents to growth. Five recommendations
for improving the situation were listed.
During the discussion which followed, the additional points
were brought out:
1. The intent of the installation of parking meters is
to keep traffic moving during heavy shopping hours -
not as a source of revenue.
2. The all -day parking of employers and employes in
the Central Business District takes up valuable park-
ing space downtown.
Carlson moved that the Planning Commission recommend to the
City Council that it give full thought to improvement of the pres-
ent parking situation, particularly with regard to meters, fines,
and on -street parking - and consider dedicating meter revenue to
the acquisition of off-street parking for the future. Dr. Thompson
seconded. Approved.
After a general discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
