03-24-2014 POLMHutchinson Police Commission Minutes
The Hutchinson Police Commission held a meeting on Monday March 24, 2014 at the Hutchinson Police Station.
Present at the meeting were Chairperson Curtis Hughes, Commissioner Verne Meyer, Commissioner Julie Jensen,
and Lt. Tom Gifferson.
Call the Meeting to Order:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Hughes at 4:30 p.m.
Approval of Agenda:
Chairperson Hughes asked if there were any changes to the agenda. A motion was made by Commissioner Jensen
to accept the agenda as written, seconded by Commissioner Meyer. The motion carried unanimously.
Approval of Minutes:
Chairperson Hughes asked the Commission to approve the minutes from the February meeting. Motion was made
by Commissioner Meyer, seconded by Commissioner Jensen, to approve the meeting minutes. Motion carried
unanimously.
Staffing Issues:
Lt. Gifferson informed the Commission that three candidates have received conditional offers of employment to fill
vacant Hospital Security positions. Background checks are underway and the candidates are expected to be working
at the hospital within 5 weeks.
Authorization to Begin Hiring Process for Police Officer:
Lt. Gifferson asked the Commission for authorization to cancel the current eligibility roster for Police Officer and to
begin the hiring process for the same position. Motion was made by Commissioner Meyer to authorize beginning the
hiring process for Police Officer and was seconded by Commissioner Jensen. Motion passed unanimously.
Union Update:
Lt. Gifferson informed the Commission the City sent the final draft of the proposed contract to the Union attorneys
back in December 2013 and as of this date has heard no response.
Items from the Floor:
Commissioner Jensen asked if there were any interested individuals. Commissioner Meyer stated he was not aware
of any and Chairperson Hughes stated he knew of one individual that had an interest but wished to speak with Chief
Hatten.
Chairperson Hughes asked Lt. Gifferson for and updated department roster including Hospital Security personnel. Lt.
Gifferson stated it would be provided to the Commissioners at the next meeting.
With there being no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Commissioner Jensen, seconded by
Commissioner Meyer, to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
Time of adjournment was 4:45 p.m.
