January 26, 1984
All Commissioners were present, also present were Counsel Peterson,
Mgr. Alexander and Ruth Hakel.
President Filk called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.
Motion was made by Commissioner Lyke, seconded by Commissioner
Daggett to accept the December 29, 1983 regular meeting and
January 3, 1984 special meeting as presented. Motion was unanimously
carried.
The December electric and gas payables were reviewed. Motion was
made by Commissioner Daggett, seconded by Commissioner Lyke to
approve the payables. Motion was unanimously carried.
Ruth Hakel presented the gas and electric financial statements.
After comparing year to date with year 1982, a motion was made by
Commissioner Lyke, seconded by Commissioner Daggett to accept the
reports. Motion was unanimously carried.
The Commission reviewed the final 1983 electric and gas budgets.
President Filk complimented management and staff on the proximity
of living within the guidelines set for the year.
Mgr. Alexander reported it would probably be a year before Ford
Motor Company would be in a position to know how much power would
be available to sell to Hutchinson Utilities Commission. It will
be several months before a tour will be scheduled of the Ford Dam.
Motion was made by Commissioner Daggett, seconded by Commissioner
Lyke to accept the proposed agreement with International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers which was presented to the Commission and
t authorized the execution of the agreement by the President and the
Secretary. Motion was unanimously carried.
Motion was made by Commissioner Lyke, seconded by Commissioner
Daggett to approve the same rate of increase for staff as outlined
in the union agreement, it being 4Z% for year 1984 and 5% for year
1985. Motion was unanimously carried.
Nathan Smutka's salary was discussed and final action will be taken
during the February meeting.
Mgr. Alexander reported on safety glass requirements and stated
he had implemented a safety glass policy which became effective
January 20, 1984.
Corrosion problems affecting the tubes (inside) on the gas turbine
were discussed. Mgr. Alexander reported that "Bud" Markin, a
cathodic protection expert, was called in and is currently working
on the problem.
A motion was made by Commissioner Lyke, seconded by Commissioner
Daggett to accept the recommendation of management to pay the
1984 Gas Task Force Assessment of $5,500. Motion was unanimously
carried.
President Filk and Commissioner Lyke at this time recognized the
achievement of Commissioner Daggett for receiving the Distinguished
Service Award of the year and Rufus Alexander for receiving the
Boss of the Year award. Congratulations!
