MINUTES- SPECIAL MEETING
HUTCHINSON PLANNING COMMISSION
Tuesday, March 6, 2001
1. CALL TO ORDER 5:30 P.M.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Arndt at 5:30 p.m. with the following members present: Jason
Olson, Dave Westlund, Jim Haugen, Dean Kirchoff, Brandon Fraser and Jeff Jones. Also present: Julie
Wischnack, AICP, Director of Planning/Building/Zoning; Heather Bieniek, Planning Coordinator and Richard
Schieffer, City Attorney.
2. PUBLIC HEARINGS
a) CONSIDERATION OF A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT FOR HUTCHINSON PUBLIC SCHOOL'S (PARK
ELEMENTARY, 33 GROVE STREET SW), TO CONSTRUCT A 13,600 SQ FT PARKING LOT FOR THE
USE OF THE SCHOOL'S VEHICLES (FOR THE DISABLED).
Mr. Jones moved to open the hearing at 5:31 p.m. Mr. Kirchoff seconded the motion. Motion to open the
hearing carried.
Ron McGraw, 325 Washington Ave, stated that he thought he had something that would speed up this
meeting.
Bob Windell, Superintendent, stated that he represented the school and they want to be a good neighbor
and look out for the safety of the children. Because of that, they will sign the 60-day waiver and prolong
the decision by the Commission and the City. They (school) will have a meeting with the community and
review the possibilities and consider any new ideas.
Mr. Jones made the motion to close the public hearing at 5: 36 p.m. Mr. Kirchoff seconded the motion.
Motion carried unanimously.
Mr. Haugen made the motion to continue the hearing for 60 days. Mr. Jones seconded the motion.
Motion carried unanimously.
Ms. Wischnack stated that the City Council has to make a decision within 120 days of application,
otherwise it is a whole different issue. Ms. Wischnack stated that the school would be on April's agenda
for the Planning Commission (4-17-01) and the City Council would decide the last week in April (4-24-01).
3. ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, Mr. Haugen moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:41 p.m. Mr. Jones
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
