October 23, 2006
I
Present: John Lyman, June Lyman, Robert Cogley, Phyllis Birkholz, Julie Jensen
City Staff: September Jacobsen, John McRaith, Kathy Hemmah
Absent: Randy Bullert, Liz Tokarczyk
I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chairman John Lyman
II. Secretary's Report: The September 19th minutes were examined. Julie
made a motion to approve and June seconded the motion. Motion was approved.
III. Treasurer's Report: September reported that card sales amounted to $229 for last
month. The dance netted $23 while Christmas Angels brought in $152. The Center
received a check from PRCE for $1330 for operating the pool concession stand this
past summer. She also reported that the LCD projector had been paid for this past
month. The Certificate of Deposit is going to be renewed for a one year period. June
made a motion to accept the report with a second from Bob. Motion was approved.
IV. Old Business
A. Tours- Julie reported that the tour to the Mystic Lake Senior Expo sold out and
that Mystic Lake awarded some prizes to Senior Center participants. The tour
to see "Church Basement Ladies" is sold out along with the Mystery tour for
October 31 st. The trip planned to "Country Christmas" in Lakeville is within
ten seats of selling out for a second time. A January 23rd "Gangster" tour to
Wabasha is in the works. Julie is also planning a March trip to Chanhassen to
see "Easter Parade".
B. Update on Programs- Kathy reported that 237 people showed up for the Senior
Expo. Healthy Eating is still drawing a good crowd. Christmas Angels is doing
well and they are selling pretty much everything they are making. The
November dance has been scheduled along with a pork chop dinner. Kathy did
a movie month with "Prairie Home Companion" as the feature presentation.
She also reported that they are looking into a quilt project. A group is seeking
quilts for needy families in McLeod County. Slumberland provides the beds
and the quilts are the finishing touch. The board would help provide materials
to make the quilts. We may have to purchase or look for some donated sewing
machines to help with the project. The Oaks has donated treats for the bingo
program and the card-making activity. The Oaks provides information to
participants on their senior accommodations as part of the process.
V. New Business
A. Purchase a fun CD- September is looking into the possibility of purchasing
some CDs that provide a moving picture that you project on the wall such as a
fireplace with flickering flames.
B. Pool Table Offer- An offer was made for $100 for the pool table. The board felt
that this was too low and that we should perhaps list it in the local paper.
C. MidCountry Sponsorship- MidCountry Bank has informed September that they
will no longer be the sole sponsor for the senior newsletter. A list of potential
sponsors will be drawn up. Potentially, the newsletter could also be funded by
several organizations, each taking turns as the monthly sponsor.
D. Board Member Terms- As the year comes to a close, we need to look at where
each board member is in their time of service to the Senior Center. September
will be checking with Melissa at City Center to make sure we are correctly
following the term limits for each member.
VI. Adjournment: Bob made a motion to adjourn at 11: 15am with a second from Phyllis.
The motion passed.
Next Meeting: Monday, November 20th at 10:00 a.m.
John McRaith, Secretary
