Future Ener2:V Tree Plantin2: Pro2:ram
Schnobrich reported that the Utilities Commission was considering reinstating some form
of Energy Tree Planting program and that Jon Guthmiller the new CIP [Conservation
Incentive Program] program manager will be contacting us as to what degree the program
will be implanted. The Board will know more as the summer progresses.
Miller Woods
Schnobrich reported to the board that extensive progress was made this winter in Miller
Woods in regards to non-native removal. All non-native trees have been removed and the
results are quite remarkable. What was 30 years ago an over grown wood lot is now an
open savannah like expanse. The next phase of the improvement will involve the
installation of a paved parking lot off of School Rd NW
2006 Arbor Dav in Library SQuare
Schnobrich explained to the board members the Arbor Day program that was being set up
with in Partnership with the Shaklee Company and the local representative Karen
Schlueter of Hutchinson. It appears the Shaklee Corporation is promoting a million dollar
tree planting program across the country. The program will consist of giving away
seedlings to citizens attending the Music in the Park session in July. The City forester will
assist and promote Arbor Day and will advocate proper tree planting techniques to the
citizens.
Developers Tree Plantin2: Pro2:ram
Mark stated that the first phase of the tree planting project went well with the
developments of South Winds and Rolling Meadows east receiving boulevard trees. A
total of 77 trees were planted. Next year an additional number of lots will be made
available for planting.
The program requires developers to escrow dollars for their development for the purpose
of planting boulevard trees.
The meeting was adjourned at 7 :pm
Respectfully Submitted, Mark Schnobrich, City Forester
