Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
Meeting Minutes
August 7, 2023
Members present were Jeff Hoeft, Chad Czmowski, Kim Schutt, Josh Kamrath, Mark Lansink, Erin
Knudtson, Kyle Wendling. Staff present Lynn Neumann, Leslie Alberts.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm.
Motion was made by Kyle Wendling to approve the minutes for June 5, 2023. Erin Knutdtson second the
motion. Minutes were approved.
Old Business
PRCE Staffing Update
o Parks Maintenance Lead Operator: Chris Hutton
o Parks Maintenance Equipment Operator: there were 12 applicants with 8 interviews. Andy Bentz
was selected for the position. Will start September 5, 2023.
New Business
PRCE Advisory Board Reappointments
o Ashley Gabbert & Josh Kamrath will be reappointed at the next council meeting
PRCE Advisory Board Vacant Position
o Kim Schutt is leaving in January, 2024.
o Has decided to stay on the board until a replacement is found.
Project Updates
o Kiwanis Park:
o $26,401.00 was donated to assist with completion of the park
o This will help complete the retaining wall, shelter improvements, and an ADA accessible
sidewalk
o Kiwanis members would like to hold a ribbon cutting event when the park re-opens
o Diagram of the park will be sent out prior to next advisory meeting
Splash Pad Updates:
o Possibly looking into a different site – asking Advisory board for suggestions and get
creative with the funding
o Looking to potentially begin the project in 2024 depending on budget options
Pickleball Courts
o Larson Engineering has been on site and is working on a proposal
o Site will be Oddfellows Park
o Group is willing to raise funds to assist with funds
Veterans Memorial Field Grandstand Project
o $240,000 was raised for the project by the Hutchinson Huskies
o Meeting with City next week
o Estimating roughly $500,000 for the project
Park Ordinance Changes
o Hutchinson currently does not have an alcohol or tobacco policy in the parks.
o McLeod county is doing an umbrella policy which would cover Hutchinson.
o Advisory Board would like to see current verbiage on what we have.
Firemans Park
o Hutchinson Fire Department is going to make the shelter larger and add a red roof.
o There was a donation for a concrete sidewalk to make the park ADA accessible.
o The fountain will be repaired by Hutchinson Parks department.
o Swings will be added.
o The fire Jeep will be re-installed once it’s been refinished.
o 3 donated benches will be placed in the park.
o The City is currently working with Mitgi on obtaining 15 parking stalls.
Board Member Items
o Could we add bike racks to Firemans Park?

A motion to adjourn was made by Kyle Wendling and Josh Kamrath second the motion. Meeting
adjourned at 6:00pm.
