06-05-2023 PRCEM Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board Meeting Minutes June 5, 2023 Members present were Jeff Hoeft, Chad Czmowski, Kim Schutt, Josh Kamrath, Mark Lansink, Erin Knudtson, Liz Stearns, Kyle Wendling and Ashley Gabbort. Staff present Lynn Neumann, Sara Witte, Casey Hagert, Randy Carter, and Jody Harms. The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm. Motion was made by Erin Knudtson to approve the minutes for May 1, 2023. Kim Schutt second the motion. Minutes were approved. Old Business PRCE Staffing Update o Introduction of board members o Internal job posting – Parks Maintenance Lead Operator Update o Position closed Friday, June 2. Two internal applicants to be interviewed June 8/9. New Business Pickleball Task Force o 10-person committee o Looking to fund a dedicated 8-court complex with lights. o Interested in using city property with bathroom facilities. o Researching other communities regarding facilities, costs, and funding. Bicycle Friendly community Award Designation – Hutchinson o Hutchinson has been upgraded to Silver. o There are only 116 Cities with this status in the US. MRPA Award of Excellence o Fireman’s Park received the MRPA’s Award of Excellence o MRPA will present the award to the City Council. Summer Program Updates o Enrollment updates for summer programs: o Swim Lessons – 591 o Fastpitch Softball - 144 o T-Ball – 116 o Tiger Ball – 101 o Summer Skate School – 60 o Pickleball Learn to Play classes: 35 Veterans Memorial Field Grandstand Project o The Huskies are fundraising for replace the VMF Grandstand o Competition goal is 2025 to host the State Baseball Tournament. o Quote was given of $370,000. o Citizen’s Bank donating $150, 000. o Total raised as of 6/5 is $240,000. o They are requesting City Council support. Splash Pad Project o Due to the high cost of the project other alternatives were discussed. o Move to existing site with shelter  Riverside Park a possibility o Alternative funding or sponsorships o Build project in phases o This will be an Action Item on the August City Council meeting. Paddle Sports Rental o Discussion regarding the low usage of the river rentals. o Use a no staff option using online options to reserve and access items. Bike and Pedestrian Committee Vacant Position o Applications are through the City of Hutchinson o Meets quarterly Board Member Items o None Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made by Kyle Wendling and Erin Knudtson second the motion.
