05-01-2023 PRCEM Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board Meeting Minutes May 1, 2023 Members present were Jeff Hoeft, Chad Czmowski, Kim Schutt, Josh Kamrath, Mark Lansink, Erin Knudtson, and Liz Stearns. Staff present Lynn Neumann and Leslie Alberts. The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm. Motion was made by Chad Czmowski to approve the minutes for March 6, 2023. Jeff Hoeft second the motion. Minutes were approved. Old Business PRCE Staffing Update o Casey Hagert started on April 24 as Recreation Manager. o Randy Carter started April 17 in a hybrid position as Maintenance Manager along with his old position. o Vacancy for Randy’s old position in Parks. Adjustments will be made to the job description. o Will post internal first, then external. Potential NA3HL team consideration o Team will be staying in Mason City, IA for this year. o They are looking to raise more funds for the locker room and start conversations earlier next year for movement. o City is looking into alternatives on cost to reconstruct the locker room. o Current quote was from VOS Construction for $120,000. New Business Summer Brochure o Registration opened April 17. o There was a delay in delivering brochures this year due to staffing shortage at the post office. o Was made available online right away so public could at least view it on time. Registration o Campground took 364 reservations since February 7 with revenue of $36,000. o Swimming Lessons has 718 participants since April 17 with revenue of $33,547. o Community Education has 542 participants since April 17 with revenue of $29,000. Parks Projects o Red Rock Burn Crew will be conducting controlled burns in Hutchinson for prairie restoration per grant. o PRCE received a grant for Red Rock to come in for the burns at Miller Woods, Tartan Park, Masonic West River and Roberts Park. o This will be a 3-year contract. o Hutchinson Fire Department conducted controlled burns for the Middle School pond, and industrial boulevards. o Kiwanis Park: o The Rocket has been completed and reinstalled. o Waiting to install a retaining wall and mulch for playground to be complete. o Completion date: middle to end of July. o Firemans Park: o There will be 4-5 memorial benches installed at the park. These cost $750.00 which covers just the material and cement pad for the bench. o A pot-o-potty will be placed there this summer for the public. o Shady Ridge Playground: o Neighborhood raised all funds for new playground. o This will be installed in June. o AFS Park: o Parks will button up leadership group items from last summer. o There will be a new sign going in at the park. o Park Signs: o Looking to the Advisory Board for ideas on new parks signs. o Need new design and will be rebranding. o Advisory Board would like samples and ideas to make an informed decision. Lynn will be getting those out. o Ideas: List park rules on the back of the sign? Use QR Code that links to updated webpage? o High School Landscape Class: o Worked with Parks to clean up the rain garden at the Depot o Worked with Parks staff to install mulch at Firemans Park. Board Member Items o Question about moving the fishing pier from Cedar Park to the campground. o Docks in at Roberts Park and the campground by end of the week. o Add fishing pier to Masonic West River Campground. Lynn looking into options. o Online LOGIS Parks map: looks blurry – will look into this. Could we put a park map in the summer brochure? Lynn will look into options. o Tour provided of the potential locker room space for the NA3HL team. Adjournment A motion to adjourn was made by Kim Schutt and Chad Czmowski second the motion.
