05-02-2022 PRCEM Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board Meeting Minutes May 2, 2022 Members present were Chad Czmowski, Ashley Gabbert, Josh Kamrath, Kyle Wendling, Craig Juhnke, Mark Lansink & Erin Knudtson. Staff present Lynn Neumann and Leslie Alberts. The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm. Motion was made by Erin Knudtson to approve the minutes for April 4. Josh Kamrath second the motion. Minutes were approved. New Business Splash Pad Project Update – HKGi A. Presented 4 concepts: a. River Theme: water features that look like snakes, frogs, etc. Estimated cost: $600,000 b. Traditional Theme: more use of color, interactive with water tables Estimated Cost: $600,000 c. Plaza Splash Pad: more jets, no above ground features, nicer paving with additional lighting Estimated Cost: $541,000 d. Natural Theme: natural stone, colored pavement, adjust grades of concrete to create rivers or pooling water, water features include turtles, leaves, snakes Estimated Cost: $650,000 – No standing water when shut off at night e. Picnic shelter cost with restrooms at each location: $657,000. Public Engagement A. Week of June 6, 2022: Online engagement scheduled roughly this week B. June 16, 2022: Open House on site (to coincide with Water Carnival) C. June/July 2022: Additional pop-up meetings /stakeholder meetings led by staff or PRCE Advisory Board Project Discussion A. Concepts 1 & 2 (River & Traditional theme) were discussed as having a combined theme since they were similar in looks & features B. Concept 3 (Plaza Splash Pad) to possibly be eliminated since it had more of a modern, downtown feel to it. Not fitting for the location C. Concept 4 (Natural Theme) was most liked but had concerns of safety with the boulders with jets, kids jumping off and slipping D. Gabrielle to find out more on safety issues, and potential geese issue since by the river E. Possible donations from the Burich Family – Lynn to talk with them. Splash Pad Project Next Steps A. Phase I: Online & public engagement sessions B. Phase 2: Bidding will happen over winter 2022 C.
