MINUTES
Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
March 1, 2021
Members present were Jeff Hoeft, Tim Peterson, Craig Juhnke, Ashley Gabbert, Josh Kamrath, and Chad
Czmowski. Also present were Sara Witte, Marv Haugen, and Jody Harms.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm.
A motion was made by Chad Czmowski to approve the minutes from the February 1, 2021, meeting.

Old Business
A. PRCE Director Update
a. Lynn Neumann will start her position as PRCE Director on Monday, March 15.
b. Facility Openings: Lap Swim, Senior Center, etc.
c. Annual Report: Paper copy distributed.
New Business
A. Advisory Board Chair
a. The advisory board needs a chairperson. It’s only a one-year commitment. Please
think about it. Selection made at April meeting.
B. Summer Brochure Programs
a. The summer brochure coming along. The print version will be available the first week
in May.
b. Coordinators are in the process of planning summer activities and camps with
guidelines in place.
c. Marv Haugen talked about the Aquatic Center and swimming lessons and how they
will look with guidelines this summer. The pool can open at 25% capacity. Swim
lessons will probably have lower class sizes due to social distancing requirements.
d. Open swim will have multiple sessions offered.
C. Discussion on Marketing Practices
a. Facebook isn’t used as much with the younger families.
b. Suggestion was made to send more emails.
c. Twitter and Instagram are other options being looked at.
D. Tour of Recreation Center/Burich Arena
a. Marv Haugen, Facilities and Operations Manager, gave an update on the 2020
Recreation Center project, the upcoming 2022 Burich Arena project, and a potential
future project to create a common entrance between the east and west arenas.
b. A guided tour was provided, as well.
Board Member Items
a. JC Women’s Park: After some research, JC Women’s Park is owned by ISD 423.
An agreement was written up to transfer property from ISD 423 to the City of
Hutchinson in the mid 90‘s, but the paperwork was never filed with the county. Until
this is figured out, the enhancements are put on hold.
b. Robert’s Park Dock: There may be grant money available for updates.
c. Add an additional floating pier at Masonic West River campground or move one from
Cedar. Possibility to include with the Crow River project in the next few years.
