MINUTES
Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
February 1, 2021
Members present were Jeff Hoeft, Liz Marcus, Tim Peterson, Craig Juhnke, Ashley Gabbert, Jo Ellen
Kimball, Josh Kamrath. Also present were Sara Witte and Jody Harms.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm.
A motion was made by Liz Marcus to approve the minutes from the October 5, 2020, meeting. Craig
Juhnke motioned to approve.
Old Business
A. Fall Programs Numbers
a. A document was provided with fall enrollments.
B. New Projects
a. Burich Arena exterior surface project was moved from 2021 to 2022. Monies will be
used towards a new parking lot at the recreation center. The digging project through
the parking lot this past fall has shown the need for a new parking lot as a priority.
C. Facility Usage/Campground
a. A comparison of 2019 to 2020 reservations was presented. There were 174 more
sites reserved in 2020. The campground opened about month later than usual and
five to the electric sites were closed to maintain proper social distancing.
New Business
A. PRCE Director Update
a. Lynn Neumann was verbally offered the job and she accepted. No other information
is available.
b. There were over 30 applicants. This was reduced to 12 applicants for the first round
of interviews. From there, applicants were reduced to six for the second round of
interviews and then down to two finalists. Finalists interviewed with city and school
staff.
B. Facility Openings
a. Lap Swimming opened February 1.
b. Senior Center opened February 2.
c. Open Skate will be offered at Burich Arena (West Rink) beginning Saturday,
February 6, from 2:00-3:30 pm. Twenty-five skaters is the max allowed to skate at
one time. No reservations it is a first come, first served.
C. Annual Reports

a. A paper copy of the 2020 annual report will be available for the March 1 meeting.
b. Instead of each coordinator presenting their updates at the advisory board meeting
this year, a tour of their facility will take place instead. We’re stepping outside the
box!
D. Tour of Event Center/Senior Center
a. September Jacobsen, Coordinator of the Hutchinson Event Center, gave a guided
tour through the facility, answered questions, and provided rental information.
Board Member Items
a. Discussion of relocating the dock at Cedar Park to the bay area at the campground.
Sara will research more on this
b. Discussion on providing public outdoor basketball court(s). JC Women’s park has
someone interested in becoming a new sponsor for this park. Since the JC Women’s
group no longer exists, this new sponsor may be able to provide this need for the
community. Also, discussion of what would be available at Park Elementary with the
current building project.
c. The Robert’s Park dock is in bad shape and needs repairs. The DNR recently
repaired the boat landing ramp. Sara will provide more information.
