MINUTES
Parks, Recreation & Community Education Advisory Board
April 5, 2021
Members present were JoEllen Kimball, Mark Lansink, Jeff Hoeft, Craig Juhnke, Ashley Gabbert, Josh
Kamrath, and Chad Czmowski. Also present were Lynn Neumann and Leslie Alberts.
The meeting was called to order at 5:15 pm.
A motion was made by Mark Lansink to approve the minutes from the February 1, 2021, meeting. Chad

Old Business
A. Election of Advisory Board Chair
a. Craig Juhnke was elected to Advisory Board Chair.
B. Marketing Practices/Communication
a. Currently using FaceBook.
b. “Rained Out” is an opt-in texting solution for families to receive notifications.

New Business
A. PT Facility Maintenance Tech Position
a. Closes April 9
b. Position is 32 hours per week with benefits
B. Spring Programs Update
a. Event Center programming picking up
b. Senior Advisory Board selling t-shirts for a fundraiser
c. Burich Arena: turf was installed / #265 soccer registrants
C. Seasonal Hiring
a. Parks: Hire 1 more
b. Pool: need #72 hires total
D. Aquatic Center Update
a. Preparedness plan to council on May 11.
b. 50% capacity – we can open at #250
c. No season passes
d. Daily Hours: 12:30-3:30pm and 4:00 – 7:00 pm – will be utilizing Sign Up Genius for
tracing purposes and tracking #250 slots for swimmers.
e. Discount tickets for Open & Fitness swim.
f. Offering swimming lessons
E. Campground Update
a. March 15: $14,000 in revenue for Day 1 online reservations.
b. Kept 5 sites closed in electric only sites to maintain distancing.
F. 2021 Park Improvement Projects
a. Eheim paver project: refurbish along with new plants
b. Oddfellows: new trail to shelter along with new countertop
c. Firemans Park: potential installation of new walkway to shelter, flagpole and
playground equipment
d. Riverside: new benches being installed
e. St. Anastasia ballfield: awarded $8,000 in grant money – new fence and backstop.
f. High School landscaping class working with Parks to complete some projects.
G. JC Women’s Park
a. Neighborhood raised over $6,000
b. Park is on ISD423 property – the City is leasing the land for 15 years
c. A new playground will be installed for ages 4-10
H. Future PRCE Board meeting locations
a. Vets Park
b. Campground
c. Depot
Board Member Items
a. JC Women’s Park: suggestion was made to add an infant swing to this location.
b. Robert’s Park Dock: Update on available funds?
c. Eheim Park: Little Crow Statue – looking to change wording on plaque near the
statue. Thoughts were given to reach out to the following: Brian Gaines (Historical
Society), Jim Fahey (Historic Hutch), and input from local Native Americans.
