06-28-2021 SAM Senior Advisory Board Minutes June 28, 2021 Present: Kay Yoch, Al Barkeim, Connie Dahl, Mike Becker, Rhonda Schwarze, Julie Jensen, Dave Husfeldt City Staff: September Jacobsen, Jenni Behrendt, John McRaith Absent: Jeannette Meyer I. The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by Chair Kay Yoch. II. Secretary’s Report: The minutes from last month’s meeting were reviewed. No corrections were brought forward. Connie made a motion to approve the minutes with a second from Mike. The motion passed. III. Monthly Sales Review: September reported that card sales totaled $84.60 with all of those sales at the Event Center. Scrubbers brought in another couple dollars and we got our final chandelier rental for $125. The chandelier will be retired now due to deteriorating condition. IV. Old Business A. Flag Pole- The Senior Center received one bid so far for putting up a flag pole at the Center. It came in at $4649. September is looking for another bid to compare it to. She checked with the VFW to see if they would support the project. They would like us to send a letter requesting funds after we determine the actual costs. VI. Business A. Senior Center Tours- Julie reported that the trip to Lake Minnetonka for a boat ride and including a visit to some flower gardens in Orono has sold out. Upcoming trips include a visit to St. Paul to watch the Saints play on th Wednesday, September 8. This is Senior/Youth night for those over 65 or under 14. Grandparents are encouraged to bring their grandchildren. October th 15 will be the rescheduled trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater to see their rendition of “The Music Man.” Julie is currently looking for a November tour to plan. B. Program Updates- September reported that the Center is now averaging about 160 participants each week. Book Club A is doing well while Book Club B is in need of some new members. The movie for June was “Soul” and this animated feature drew a good crowd. July will bring “The Terminal” with Tom Hanks. September had some issues with the DVD player so a new one will be purchased. This coming month the newsletter will be presented in its new four- page format. It will still have all the necessary information but will save on printing and postage costs. The kayaking group hit Lake Erie in June and has thst two excursions planned for next month- July 14 on Lake Allie and July 21 at Belle Lake. C. Other Items- No other items were brought before the board. VI. Adjournment: Dave made a motion to adjourn at 10:45 am with a second from Al. The motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Senior Advisory Board will be Monday, July 26th at 10:00 a.m. John McRaith, Secretary
