Senior Advisory Board Minutes
April 26, 2021
Present: Kay Yoch, Al Barkeim, Connie Dahl, Julie Jensen, Dave Husfeldt, Mike Becker
City Staff: September Jacobsen, Jenni Behrendt, John McRaith, Lynn Neumann
Absent: Jeannette Meyer, Rhonda Schwarze
I. The meeting was called to order at 10:01 a.m. by Chair Kay Yoch.
II. Secretary’s Report: The minutes from last month’s meeting were reviewed. No
corrections were brought forward. Connie made a motion to approve the minutes
with a second from Mike. The motion passed.
III. Monthly Sales Review: September reported that card sales are beginning to pick up
again now that we are getting a little traffic at the Center. This past month card sales
brought in $42.60 and dish cloth sales brought in an additional $10.
IV. Old Business
A. Senior Center T-Shirt- September presented a few options for a t-shirt design
promoting the Senior Center. Discussion followed about colors and whether
seniors would be interested in purchasing something like this. As support for
investing money in this project was lacking, Al made a motion to table the idea
for the time being. Mike seconded the motion and the discussion was tabled.
VI. Business
A. Senior Center Tours- Julie presented a little recap of the tour program which she
began volunteering for back in the year 2000. In the twenty years since, the
tours program has raised over $19,000 while keeping fees much lower than any
other entity providing tours. She added that tours will begin again in August
with a trip to Lake Minnetonka for a boat ride and will include a stop at some
flower gardens in Orono. The St. Paul Saints will be the focus for a September
th
tour and October 15 will be the rescheduled trip to the Chanhassen Dinner
Theater to see their rendition of “The Music Man.”
B. Program Updates- September reported that the Center is hosting a knitting
workshop on Monday afternoons. Mike Becker has agreed to teach a group the
rules to the card game Sheephead. Book clubs are up and running and bingo is
happening on Fridays in the large meeting room. The movie for April was
“Always” while the movie for May will be “North Country.” Participants
would like to get yoga classes going again but the current covid guidelines make
that challenging. September would also like to get the Fellowship Dinner back
as soon as restrictions become more relaxed.
C. New PRCE Director- Lynn Neumann, who joined the PRCE staff in mid-March
as its new director, was introduced to the board and answered some questions
regarding senior programming.
D. Other Items- Mike brought up the idea of having an American flag at the Center
either indoors or outdoors. The board agreed that this should be investigated.
VI. Adjournment: Connie made a motion to adjourn at 10:57 am with a second from
Dave. The motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Senior Advisory Board
th
will be Monday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m.
John McRaith, Secretary
