March 22, 2021
Present: Kay Yoch, Al Barkeim, Connie Dahl, Jeannette Meyer, Rhonda Schwarze, Julie
Jensen
City Staff: September Jacobsen, Jenni Behrendt, John McRaith
Absent: Dave Husfeldt, Mike Becker
I. The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. by Chair Kay Yoch.
II. Secretary’s Report: The minutes from last month’s meeting were reviewed. No
corrections were brought forward. Connie made a motion to approve the minutes
with a second from Jeannette. The motion passed.
III. Treasurer Report: Since we no longer have a separate bank account, the minutes will
refer to financial activity as the Monthly Sales Review. This will cover the Center’s
fundraising activities. This past month there was $51.60 in card sales and $10 in dish
cloth sales.
IV. Old Business- None
V. Business
A. Senior Center Tours- Julie reported that it has been over a year since our last
tour. Planning has begun again with the hopes of having our first tour of 2021
th
on August 24 with a cruise on Lake Minnetonka and a visit to a flower garden
in Orono. This will be followed by a trip to a St. Paul Saints game. The Saints
will be playing a matinee game against the Omaha Storm Chasers. The Saints
th
are now the AAA farm team for the Minnesota Twins. On October 13 we will
once again plan to travel to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater to see their version
of “The Music Man.” This trip was postponed from last year.
B. Program Updates- September reported that more people are coming back to the
Center. Book clubs are already running or getting ready to restart. The
snowshoe outing was cancelled due to a lack of snow. The AARP Defensive
Driving class will not meet in person until at least September. In April we will
see the addition of pinochle on Mondays and Tuesdays, a Tuesday exercise
class using a DVD, and a session on learning to play the Sheephead card game
at 1:00pm which is also on Tuesdays. Ping pong is happening on Wednesdays
at 1:00pm. Bingo is taking place on Fridays while a knitting workshop is being
held on Monday afternoons. Movie presentations will continue monthly.
C. New PRCE Director- Lynn Neumann joined the PRCE staff as its new director
today. She hopes to be present at the April meeting of the advisory board and
get a chance to meet its members and discuss the current status of the Center.
D. Other Items- September showed the board a possible t-shirt design for the
Center. Discussion ensued and the board tabled the matter until next month. In
the past we’ve had some type of volunteer appreciation day but this will be
delayed until the Center is fully reopened. Much the same for a potential
concert. Until we know for sure that it won’t be shut down, we don’t want to
book an event that might not happen.
VI. Adjournment: Rhonda made a motion to adjourn at 11:10 am with a second from
Jeannette. The motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Senior Advisory
Board will be Monday, April 26 at 10:00 a.m.
John McRaith, Secretary
